Commenting on today’s announcement on the strengthening of the rules and regulator’s powers to tackle nuisance calls and spam texts.

The Chief Executive of the Market Research Society, Jane Frost says:

“The Market Research Society welcomes the announcement today on the toughening of regulator’s powers to tackle nuisance calls. For some time now we have been actively campaigning to stop rogue operators who undertake ‘sugging’ (selling under the guise of market research) which we have always considered to be nuisance calls.

“These changes strengthen the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations governing electronic marketing, including marketing calls and texts; the changes will benefit legitimate market and social research activities by telephone and text, by clamping down on the more unscrupulous operators.

“MRS has been involved in this consultation from the beginning; liaising with the Information Commissioner’s Office, the DCMS and Ofcom to ensure that research is clearly distinguished from marketing activities.”
