BEST NEWCOMER
WINNER: Luke Perry, RSM Robson Rhodes
A vintage year for newcomers was capped by Luke Perry’s outstanding chairmanship of the “Agenda for the next generation”
session. He showed maturity and great personal skills in handling a panel of very senior people and keeping the session moving and on course. It was a model of timekeeping that many of his illustrious seniors would do well to follow.
FINALISTS:
- Simon Blyth & Simon Roberts
- Julia Wolny
BEST CONTRIBUTION
WINNER: Luke Perry, RSM Robson Rhodes
Luke Perry took over the “Agenda for the next generation” session when the original convenor had to drop out. He tackled the task with great energy and application: conducting voxpop interviews himself, doing the editing, preparing the presentation,
assembling the distinguished panel, and chairing the whole session superbly. The result was that the most important subject
of how the industry can attract and retain top quality people was given a serious airing. It is unlikely that anyone of whatever level of experience could have done a better job.
FINALISTS:
- "Brain science"
- "Fuzz is the buzz"
- Rita Clifton for chairing "Brands stuff"
- "The roar of the crowd"
 BEST NEW THINKING
WINNER: Fiona Blades, Claydon Heeley Jones Mason, & Stephen Phillips, Spring Research
The Award for Best New Thinking is given to a nontraditional approach to evaluating the influence of word of mouth: to focus on the purchase and avoid ‘postrational bias’ from the purchaser. In their paper, “Decision Watch UK”, Fiona Blades and Stephen Phillips quoted several practical applications. They impressed the judges who also endorsed the authors’ statement that further work, especially of a quantitative nature, would be likely to be valuable.

- Simon Blyth & Simon Roberts
