FreshMinds and Flamingo International share top spot at Research Excellence and Effectiveness Awards 2006Date: 7 November 2006 This year’s Research Excellence and Effectiveness Awards judges could not choose between two industry leaders for the top award of the night; such was the quality of competition. FreshMinds and Flamingo International beat off a competitive field to share the crown as Best Research Agency 2006 at the prestigious MRS industry awards, held last night, 6 November, at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel, which showcased the best of market, social and opinion research. Both Flamingo and FreshMinds were praised for their integrity and core values. Flamingo was awarded for the quality, depth and rigour of its thinking, whilst FreshMinds had an especially successful evening at the event, picking up a further award for Research Innovative Employer of the Year. Also picking up two awards were Oxford Strategic Marketing & Research International for Vodafone, winning the MRS / AURA Insight Management Effectiveness Award and the prestigious Best Research Campaign award for their work in the challenging mobile telecommunications market. The entrepreneurial spirit and youth of Spring Research was celebrated in its winning Best New Agency, which builds upon its success last year when it won a Conference Award for Best New Thinking . A new recipient was Ruth Buchanan, an Insight Manager with Royal Mail Group. Judges praised not just her technical ability, but her enthusiasm and commitment to the industry, winning her the Research Newcomer of the Year. In contrast, a lifetime’s contribution to research was recognised when Tony Cowling and John Samuels were presented with prestigious MRS Gold Medals. The high praise for newcomers and tough competition for the top award recognises how diverse, vibrant, youthful and innovative research is today. Judges were full of praise for all winners and nominees; Awards presenter and ex-MRS President Professor Michael Thomas commented, “There is no doubt that the industry is enjoying a purple patch; tonight the awards have honoured an exceptional level of quality and commitment. The future is bright with some of the best researchers emerging that we have ever seen.” The Awards, which were hosted by Channel 5 and ex-BBC broadcaster Kate Gerbeau, were a huge success with over 500 industry guests in attendance. Winners of other Excellence and Effectiveness Awards included:
Chairman of the MRS, Simon Lidington, commented, “This year’s awards were truly exceptional. With such a fine array of developing talent being celebrated, they represent the vitality and the young entrepreneurial spirit that is invigorating the industry. It bodes well for next year where we are hoping that the nominations will raise the bar even higher!” Simon concluded, “It will be interesting to see the impact that some of the names mentioned tonight will have on the industry in the future.” For more information on the Research Excellence and Effectiveness Awards visit http://www.mrs.org.uk/awards/index.htm. ***
