Robert Winston and Charles Leadbeater to headline Research 2009
MRS has announced the line-up for the research industry’s flagship event - Research 2009.
Date: 12 December 2008
The event opens on Tuesday 24 March with Rebecca Wynberg, Chairman of Sadek Wynberg Millward Brown, interviewing Professor Robert Winston, Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College, London. This stimulating session will address the role and impact of science and technology on society and culture, the perceived dichotomy between creativity and research and the role of research in facilitating public engagement with science.
The thread of inspirational and innovative business ideas will run throughout the conference programme, seeking to engage delegates on topical issues from the Home Office’s National Identity Scheme to citizen journalism. Day Two’s headline keynote will be esteemed creative influencer Charles Leadbeater, talking on how companies can mobilise consumers as co-creators and innovators. Client-side heavyweights span government, academia, finance and media , and include speakers from Google, HSBC and the London College of Fashion. The programme promises something for everyone.
Research 2009 incorporates several new formats to keep delegates engaged – with Day Two featuring a hotly contested debate chaired by Mark Earls (Herd) on how influence works between an anthropologist, an economist and a zoologist. Break out sessions will be held in the Plaza Suite, including a workshop on how to ‘Make better adverts by digging above the clichés’, led by John Griffiths of Planning Above and Beyond and Elena Ionita of Leo Burnett Bucharest.
Back by popular demand, the award-winning Pecha Kucha session which made its debut in 2008, returns to the programme – bringing Day One to a close with a fast and furious debate on ‘When I run the market research industry…’
And no annual conference would be complete without the hugely popular Illuminas Party, held at exciting London venue Skylon, on the evening of the 24th March.
Co-Chairman of the Conference Programme Team, Simon Lidington (Chief Exchanger, Insight Exchange), comments: “We’re very excited about the line-up for Research 2009 – which will be a celebratory festival of innovation and ideas in business. Our fantastic keynotes will be followed by a succession of big names from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines – inspiring us all to apply new concepts and build on opportunities in the workplace.”
