Global Research Expert Brings Advice to CreweDate: 17 October 2008 The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s North Staffs branch is joining forces with The Market Research Society (MRS) to bring a highly useful event to Crewe which, says the expert speaker, will help marketers and business people better understand their customers and as a result be better equipped to brave the current economic uncertainty. Leading market research consultant Justin Gutmann, until recently Research Director for global research and consulting company Harris Interactive and an MRS Fellow, believes that in this economic downturn understanding customer wants and needs through information management is absolutely paramount in gaining competitive advantage. “Whilst marketing communication budgets are often cut in a recession, many companies strive to maintain their research budgets,” explains Justin, who has over 30 years’ experience in the sector. “Market research gives organisations an accurate understanding of target audiences, markets and industry conditions, all of which is critical to an organisation's very survival. Working effectively with market research agencies is a must for those businesses keen to help ‘recession proof’ their organisations. My presentation will give not only an insight into market research but also reveal how to get the best out of market research and research agencies. This is a vital skill for the modern marketing professional.” “We’re delighted to work with MRS to bring an expert of Justin’s calibre to our respective members and marketers locally,” explains Mike Walley FCIM, a Chartered Marketer and a committee member of the North Staffs branch of The Chartered Institute of Marketing. Carol Curran, Operations Director at MRS, adds: “This joint event will give MRS and The Chartered Institute of Marketing members a valuable networking opportunity – and the chance to share advice and ideas in the current tough climate. Market research is a crucial tool to informing marketing activity, and to make the most of synergies and shared working, mutual understanding and close co-operation is crucial. We are very pleased to be able to join up with the North Staffs branch of The Chartered Institute of Marketing on this occasion – and hope our members find the event as worthwhile as we expect.” A Guide to Working with Marketing Research Agencies will take place at MMU Cheshire (Crewe Campus), Room D-0-01, Delaney Building, Crewe Green Road, Crewe, Cheshire.
