The Techniques of GeodemographicsAn introductory seminar at MRS, London EC1 on Monday 03 November Speaker BiographiesAfter experience in brand marketing and advertising Peter got into geodemographics in 1981 at CACI, as Head of Consulting. He helped found Pinpoint Analysis in 1983, leaving in 1991 to run TMC. His book ‘Targeting Customers’ was published in 2004. Dan is Lecturer in Social and Spatial Inequalities in the Department of Geography, University of Sheffield. Dan's research interests are centred on social and spatial divisions within society, including techniques for measuring these differences, especially clustering and classification. He created OAC on behalf of the Office for National Statistics, and his current research is studying changing residential patterns of the UK 1991-2991 through area classification. Alex is a Research Fellow at University College London. His research examines how geodemographic methods can be refined through modern approaches to data mining, geographic information science and quantitative human geography. He is also part of the team at UCL who have launched a range of area and surname profiling websites. Martin has been involved with geodemographics since 1979, in particular in their application to the research at Whitbread (where he was the Research Director) to market research, direct marketing, and spatial analysis (site planning). More recently he was involved with the area classification working party that led to the creation of OAC. He is a Visiting Professor at Birkbeck College, University of London where his interests are in looking at improved and non-classical ways of defining areas. Barry is chair of the MRS Census and Geodemographics Group and Director of Advanced Analytics for Teradata (UK). Chris is chair of the steering group of the OAC User Group and was Head of Census Output and Geography at ONS.
