Corporate social responsibility and the financial community - friends or foes?

November 2004

"Logically it has got to be the case that there is a link between CSR and business performance. The development of financial tools by companies providing different types of research on social and environments risks is a major driver for the greater adoption and appreciation of CSR within the financial community, along with the development of social responsibility indices like FTSE4Good."
William Oulton, Strategic Advisor for SRI to FTSE Group, the global index provider.

CSR refers to the comprehensive approach that a corporation takes to meet or exceed stakeholder expectations beyond measures of revenue, profit and legal obligation. The four pillars of CSR are community investment, human rights and employee relations, environmental practices, and ethical conduct.

Nigel Middlemiss presented an interesting introduction to 'what is CSR?' - its take up by industry and its application today and will present some recent findings from Echo Research's 'CSR and the financial community friends or foes?'

Nigel is Head of CSR Research and Practice Director for Utilities, Government and Industry with Echo Research Group. Echo Research is a leading global reputation analysis company which enables clients to understand the views and expectations of their stakeholders.
