Banish the Winter Blues

R-Net’s January social took place at a funky bar called Bluu situated in the heart of Hoxton: a great evening that helped us banish the winter blues!

The atmosphere of the bar and the comfy sofas contributed to a relaxing evening. The event was fairly informal in comparison to other R-Net presentations and workshops that take place, to allow people to meet and chat about their own ideas and concerns.

One young researcher currently on a student placement commented, “It was a great chance to meet more people working in research, and hear about different types of jobs and projects that are out there. I met some inspirational role models who’ve already achieved a lot.”

“The good thing about the MRS supporting R-Net”, she continued, “is that it allows young researchers who have just started to become familiar with the market in general and also decide the type of research they would like to get involved in the future whether its advertising, political, international research, etc - with the help of the others in the R-Net group.”

There are benefits for those a little further on in their careers too: “I like coming to R-Net to meet up with other people working in research” said a client-side researcher. “I work in a very small team and it’s great to get ideas from other people, and learn how things are done elsewhere, for example, getting research used within the company.”

For all those people that did attend, the R-Net Steering Group would like to thank you for coming, and for your ideas and feedback.

R-Net intends to have these socials every few months, so we hope to see you again soon in the future.
