Creative Writing for Researchers

Objective

This course helps to:

  • liberate participants from the mundane and meaningless language of everyday business prose
  • understand how a good story is constructed and be able to tell a research story well
  • equip participants with writing tools that will improve their ability to communicate clearly in a ‘voice’ that is professional, engaging and inspiring

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:

  • Write without recourse to repetitive, redundant clichés
  • Recognise the elements of a well written story
  • Construct the plot and a clear logical narrative for any piece of business writing
  • Write in a style that befits their personal and professional ‘voice’

Who will benefit?

Researchers with at least three years’ experience (agency or client side, quantitative or qualitative focus) who want to improve their ability to communicate their ideas and understanding to a variety of audiences including colleagues, internal & external clients and research participants.

Audrey Anand

An exceptional qualitative researcher with a unique combination of skills and experience, developed over the last 18 years, as an advertising planner and an independent consultant.

Audrey has worked on some of the world's best loved brands in the broadest spectrum of market sectors including FMCGs, Technology, Media, Charity and has worked for leading advertising agencies and J Walter Thompson, Clemenger, DDB and Ogilvy.

She have a proven track record of developing, coaching and training peers and junior colleagues, most recently running a creative writing workshops for researchers at the 2009 MRS Conference and for her own clients.

Prior to her career in research and advertising, Audrey was awarded a Joint Honours BA in English & Philosophy and holds an MSc in Marketing. Outside work, Audrey is a prize-winning writer of fiction, poetry and drama, and has had her work performed at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh.
