MRS and the Independent Consultants Group are launching a new award to celebrate researchers who choose to work as micro-businesses.

The award, which is free to enter, is open to all independent researchers who are either members of MRS or the ICG and employ three or less full time staff.

The ICG's Ed Newton, who worked with MRS to develop the criteria, said: "Independents work across the breadth of the industry and we wanted to make sure the award was open to as many of them as possible. Whatever your skill set, we hope you'll find a way to show how you've made an impact."

John Bizzell, Events & Awards Manager for MRS, explained: "Every year we try to develop our awards so that we really are providing a platform to celebrate excellence across the sector. Independents make an important contribution and we want this new category to give them an opportunity to shine."

Entries should be submitted no later than 4pm on 4 July. Finalists will be announced in October and the winner will be revealed at the MRS Awards Dinner at Supernova on 5 December.

Full criteria and entry forms can be found here.
