As MRS Scotland enters its 40th year, new Chair Tom Fife-Schaw outlines his aims for the Network.

Market and social research has an important role to play in Scotland. We firmly believe that the sector adds value by connecting Scotland’s businesses and organisations with the Scottish public. High quality insight from both client-side and agency research professionals already helps organisations deliver products and services that meet and exceed the needs and expectations of Scotland’s citizens. The MRS Scotland committee aims to foster an active research community to help research professionals maximise the impact of insight and make a real difference. Now in its 40th year, the committee remains committed to attracting engaged and committed researchers dedicated to championing the research sector north of the border.

I have the privilege of taking over from Nicky Taylor as Chair of the MRS Scotland committee. I want to build on his hard work over the past few years and continue to fly the flag for the research sector in Scotland. Working with my fellow committee members, we will raise the profile of our work showcasing research in action and delivering engaging, useful speaker sessions, social events and training.

Our main ambition is to run events that appeal to the Scottish membership and add value to their professional lives. We want to increase the level of engagement with existing members and encourage other research professionals to join. As such, we are very keen to hear from members in Scotland to understand what events and activities they would like us to run in the future. Our calendar of events for the next year will be available soon, but in the meantime, we would love to hear from members with suggestions or feedback either direct, via the MRS Scotland LinkedIn group or at our next event. Please do get in touch!
