Research Live Award

Best New Agency

New thinking and innovation are essential to keep the research industry fresh and maintain its long-term future. This award acknowledges the entrepreneurial spirit, achievement and ambition of smaller agencies.

The award is open to any MR agency that has been trading for no more than 24 months up to 1 July 2017 and operates within a recognised self-regulatory research framework (MRS Company Partner, employs members of MRS or other equivalent associations outside the UK).

As well as new startups, this category is open to MBOs or new businesses set up within the framework of a larger organisation. However, in the case of an MBO, you must demonstrate how you are doing things differently from the previous organisation (i.e. it is not simply business as usual under a new management team). If you are a ‘new agency’ within a larger organisation, you must demonstrate the extent to which you are operating outside the main group – e.g. the client base you have established beyond group clients and the extent to which you are operating independently of your parent including in areas such as support staff and premises.

Judges will look for:

  • new business models – a working methodology that changes the way clients view research and research agencies
  • research innovation (new solutions, concepts and approaches)
  • evidence of a sustainable financial model and an indication of prospects for financial growth
  • an indication of the direction of the business in terms of consolidation and growth. It may be early days but, where has current agency business come from and in what areas do you see future growth?
  • client relationships – include in your submission information on how client relationships are being nurtured and grown egconsider the inclusion of examples where initial work or a project has led to a further commission
  • demonstration of why a client should choose your agency over and above what already exists. What are you doing that is different? How are you adding value, giving insight that no-one else can deliver?
  • flying the flag for the research sector – give examples of instances when you have presented research to a wider audience than just your clients e.g. at conferences, industry events etc
