MRS / ASC Technology award
The development of research technology is very much alive and well in our industry. The 2008 Award attracted entries from the UK, Europe and beyond, and the high standard made judging very difficult.
The importance of technology in the research process continues to increase. As Mike Cooke of GFK stated at a recent conference ‘This is an exciting time in research as technology becomes ever more embedded in our lives. How we utilise this in combination with our traditional survey techniques will define the near future of marketing research’
Winner:
Red Centre Software for Ruby
What the judges said
Ruby is a versatile desktop tool which dramatically helps the experienced user in the efficient preparation, integration and analysis of data from tracking surveys and projects with data from different sources. The thoughtful design of the user interface and the sophisticated underlying analysis options, allows complex requirements to be expressed in a succinct and easily maintained manner. This is combined with a powerful scripting language and the ability to automate all processes through a standard Windows interface.
The judges felt that Ruby offered an excellent solution to several challenges facing market research analysis. Ruby’s integrated approach to merging data, simplifying the communication of complex analysis specifications, delivering interactive results to the client's desktop and the ability to automate all of these through a single scripting language should significantly reduce errors and turnaround time whilst decreasing cost.
Finalists:
