SEARCH IS ON FOR RESEARCH INDUSTRY'S LEADING LIGHTS
MRS ANNOUNCES CALL FOR ENTRY FOR FLAGSHIP AWARDS

Date: 28 May 2009

The best in research will once again come under the spotlight at the annual industry showcase.  The much-coveted Research Awards provide the ideal platform for researchers and research companies to show how the industry is helping to change perceptions and support clients through an increasingly tough economy.

MRS will open its call for entries for the annual Research Awards on Monday 1 June and is expecting a strong response, particularly in the New Consumer Insights and Financial Services categories.  Launched last year, both attracted high levels of top-quality entries from across the industry with winners drawn from both client and agency sides.

Hopefuls have until Friday 31 July to submit their entries for the MRS and Research magazine’s 13 award categories, which will be judged by a panel of leading business figures and research sector experts.

The flagship industry awards recognise the contribution that research makes to business, communication and policy-making across both the public and private sectors.  As the economy endures another year of global recession, now more than ever judges will want to see how researchers quantify the value of client investment and present actionable insights that truly support an organisation or brand.

This year, for the first time, MRS will be running a half-day workshop to help potential award entrants get to grips with their submissions.  The free session on the afternoon of 29 June will be open to anyone looking for advice and practical help on how to ensure their entry ticks all the right boxes, with information on how to address specific criteria and tips on the things that can make a winning submission stand out.

Professor Michael Thomas, Chair of the MRS Awards Panel, explains:  “The research industry is weathering the economic storm remarkably well – but we have another tough year ahead.   Judges will be seeking to recognise those research suppliers who are innovating to manage changing market demands and helping clients achieve results in the face of real adversity.

“The new MRS workshop has been introduced in response to popular demand from members and previous entrants wanting a little more guidance on what makes a winning submission.  While of course there is no guarantee that attending the workshop will secure you a gong, we hope that the session will help every entrant’s case, by preventing some of the more fundamental errors we come across and giving some practical tips on what the judges look for.”

Now in its sixth year, the Research Awards promote outstanding achievement, innovation, excellence and effectiveness in market, social and opinion research.  The ceremony on 14 December 2009 will be hosted by Daisy McAndrew, ITV News’ economics editor , at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.
