UK Strategy for Geographical Information (GI) - contribute your viewsThe Geographic Information Panel was established in 2005 by DCLG Ministers, in order to provide high-level advice on GI issues (see www.gipanel.org.uk). In June 2006, the GI Panel announced that it had commissioned the consultancy Know Edge Ltd to develop a GI Strategy for the United Kingdom. The aim is to formulate a consistent, national strategy that supports regional strategies and other GI initiatives, taking in a wide range of stakeholder views. The consultants have been set a timetable of delivering a strategy to the GI Panel in December 2006. The UK GI Strategy may well determine whether or not key geographical information is freely available to market researchers, geodemographers and other users, and the CGG is keen to ensure that it is. The CGG has contributed its views by participating in a workshop held on 23 June and by making a written submission - download a copy of our submission (PDF 16KB, PDF Help). The Know Edge team have set up an email address to allow all members of the GI community to contribute their views. To do so, please send an email to ukgistrategy@knowedgeconsortium.co.uk.
