ADAN - the Advanced Analytics Network - aims to help identify, develop and disseminate research industry best practice in the general area of advanced analytics.

On 29th November 2018 ADAN will be holding its next symposium ADAN will be holding its next symposium, (a 2.5 hour evening mini-conference at the MRS office), which will build on the success of the previous events. We have four thirty minute slots for presentations (20 mins for presentation, 10 mins for discussion), and welcome papers that speak directly to our network’s aims.

Specifically, for the event, we are interested in papers that demonstrate latest thinking and analytical advances in the use of unstructured text or image data for consumer insight. We would be particularly interested in (a) case studies of applications to survey unstructured data (e.g. open text entry), and/or (b) case studies utilising unstructured data outside of surveys (e.g. call centre transcripts).

The audience will be looking to learn about the analysis performed (e.g. Natural Language Processing) as well as its incorporation into further analysis (e.g. customer satisfaction driver analysis). It is important that the audience understands the different applications, the challenges, and what your learnings/recommendations are.

Our members have a common interest in advanced analytics, but approach this from a variety of backgrounds, so papers should strike a good balance between technical detail and clarity of explanation. Unlike mainstream conferences, the focus of each presentation is not on “How the results changed the way the client did business” – rather it is on “What is this new technique, how is it an improvement, and how might the audience might go about using it themselves?”

Please submit any specific questions or a brief description of your idea for a paper to Michelle Denslow via email at Michelle.Denslow@mrs.org.uk

Please use the following headings for your submission (in Word format)

  • Author (s)/ Company or Affiliation
  • Paper title
  • Description of the analysis you conducted, and why it would be interested to the ADAN audience etc. (max 200 words)
  • Data you will use to show the impact of this development

Please note that we do not accept papers that promote proprietary software or are more directly concerned with data visualisation.

Please also note that whereas we hope that authors who present at the symposium will be willing to share their presentations via the MRS website, this is not mandatory.

DEADLINE for submission: 5pm, Friday 28thth September 2018
