AI is reshaping research at pace — but what happens if the sector invests in automation at the expense of people?
This panel-led MRS webinar will explore the risks of reducing or deprioritising recruitment, training and development for junior researchers in pursuit of AI-driven efficiencies. Drawing on sector discussion and evidence from the MRS Delphi Report 2026, the session will ask what the profession could lose if early-career pathways and foundational research skills are allowed to erode.
Chaired by James Endersby, CEO of Opinium Research LLP, as a live panel discussion with Bethan Coe - Ipsos, James Sallows – Lego, Sophie Tucker – Maze Media and Jane Frost CBE, CEO, MRS.
The webinar will consider the balance between automation and practitioner competence, the human skills clients continue to value, and the long-term commercial consequences of underinvesting in talent. It will also highlight how structured professional development, including the MRS Advanced Certificate, can help equip the next generation of researchers with the knowledge, confidence and judgement needed to use technology responsibly and effectively.
This session is designed for research suppliers, agency leaders, insight and analytics teams, HR and L&D specialists, early-career researchers and MRS Advanced Certificate Accredited Centres.
