MRS has collaborated with leading independent business publisher, Kogan Page, to develop a new online training course offering practitioners the chance to develop their competence and skill set when working with statistics.

Launching today, Statistics for Research, uses a combination of video content and interactive activities to explore how statistics are used in research. The course explains key statistical concepts, demonstrates the importance of statistics for research, and helps participants to master important techniques like sampling and weighting.

Designed for flexible learning, the course can be completed from a PC, tablet or mobile phone and is ideal for practitioners new to working with statistics, as a refresher or in preparation for the MRS Advanced Certificate in Market and Social Research Practice.

The MRS-accredited course is worth six CPD credits and, once completed, will earn the user a certificate of continuing professional development from the MRS and Kogan Page.

Jane Frost CBE, chief executive of MRS, explains: “We are delighted to be working with Kogan Page to offer this exciting new training option. The course builds on our wide range of training and qualifications to strengthen expertise in a very important area for all market and social research practitioners. In the age of big data a fundamental grounding in statistics is more vital than ever, and this course will give a wide variety of practitioners the confidence to deploy statistics effectively.”

Helen Kogan, managing director of Kogan Page, said: “As we celebrate 50 years of independent publishing, Kogan Page is thrilled to be collaborating with MRS on what has been a unique project for us. Statistics for Research will equip users with the confidence and technical knowledge they need to advance as professionals in a rapidly evolving environment. The interactive online course represents a new approach for Kogan Page and is part of our ongoing commitment to developing best-in-class content that effectively supports professional development.”
