Last year, MRS ran our first ever conference purely focused on young researchers and what they need. Originally planned as a half-day conference, this was extended to a full day due to the number and quality of the submissions. It was a sold-out event with 100 delegates, 10 sessions, inspiring speakers, and a lot of tweeting!

DATE TBC

The MRS &more network exists to give young researchers access to the best knowledge, practice, and networking opportunities to push their careers forward.

We are now seeking speaker submissions for our 2020 Conference. We want to give a platform to &more members and encourage submissions from young researchers, but also from those who manage and mentor them.

How to submit:

The focus of the conference is on what &more members need to know to be fantastic researchers. We are looking for submissions on new ideas and innovation, essential methodologies, and fascinating case studies. Plus, ideas on career development and growth. What helps young researchers carve out a career path and stand out? What do you wish you had known when you started out in research? What skills are essential for young researchers in their future?

Please send us your suggestions for a:

  • 30-minute case study - present new research where innovative methodologies have been used, outcomes have been notable, and the audience will be left excited by your story.
  • No slides panel debate - suggest a strategic or methodological panel discussion.
  • 30-minute showcase - share your best tips on career growth, what has helped you succeed or what has inspired your calling.

A quick note on our selection criteria

We are open to receiving submissions from everybody – not just &more members, and you do not need to meet the &more criteria. The audience will however be &more members (anyone who is under 30 or has been in the industry for less than 5 years).

With just 10 sessions available we give priority to &more members/young researchers, new hot-off-the-press research and projects using pioneering research techniques

Please submit a brief synopsis (approx. 200 words) for consideration, by the 4 May, to conference@mrs.org.uk.

The exact date for the conference is TBC but it will be late August at the earliest. This will be confirmed as soon as possible.
