Can you deliver an effective research proposal on homelessness?

Design a research proposal to help further society’s understanding of homelessness in the UK. One which will really deliver insight and identify the actions required to address the issues of homelessness both in the short and long term. One that will make a real difference to society. Plus win a prize – a free MRS training course or conference ticket*.

In the commercial world it is taken as read that research provides a deep understanding of customers as the basis for successful product and service design. Given the scale and persistence of homelessness, it would be easy to conclude that research is conducted here on a similar foundation. Unbelievably, there is little research beyond government data and small-scale qualitative studies.

To address this, MRS is taking the initiative by overseeing a project to define a new research study on understanding the homeless. The project will deliver a definitive research study in order to give all those supporting homelessness – government, charities and volunteer bodies – useable insight, and recommended, practical actions.

Have you got an idea about this key issue? Do you think you know how to do this on a research level?

MRS is inviting members of &more to enter a proposal for the study of homelessness. You can, individually or in a group, write and submit a proposal for the project. The successful proposal will then be put to work with an agency to deliver the research project.

Project overview
Delegates will include industry leaders and innovators, senior client-side representatives, your peers and fellow &more members – a space to meet influencers and open great dialogue.

The project will deliver a definitive research study to help raise the overall understanding required to design services and solutions which:

  • Help people out of homelessness
  • support those experiencing homelessness
  • prevent people from falling into homelessness

The project will also demonstrate how professional research can give the homeless a clear voice that is fully heard and integrated into solutions. This is the best way to address such a human issue and resolve it in the long term.

Submit a proposal
To contribute to this project please provide a full written proposal by Friday 21 February 2020 to info@mrs.org.uk. The proposal should include details of all recommended qualitative and quantitative stages, sampling  methodology, and approach to analysis and reporting. Innovative ideas will be welcomed. The detailed brief can be found here.

Next phase
We will then select the best proposal and find sponsors to get the work done. The winning proposal writer/s receive a free ticket for an MRS one day conference or training course. The proposal writer/s will also be part of an MRS Board Committee involved in overseeing the whole project. And finally we will present the results to all those involved in solving homelessness in the UK, and make sure the recommendations are well publicised and acted upon.

This is your chance to make a difference – let’s show the world what good research can do!
