The Employer Skills Survey (ESS) is one of the largest business surveys in the world with c.90,000 interviews in each iteration, including almost 7,000 in Wales. It informs public policy around the UK and provides “the” comprehensive source of labour market intelligence on the skills challenges employers face. The study has undergone significant re-development over the last 12-months. Most significant is the merger of the ESS and its long-standing sister-survey, the Employer Perspectives Survey (EPS), providing exciting opportunities to answer a series of new research questions, and a large-scale trial of Random Probability sampling. In this joint event with SRA Cymru, IFF Research look forward to talking through their work on the re-development of the survey, and the analysis opportunities the survey will offer, which was nominated for the MRS Public Policy/Social Research Award in 2019

“ESS is a key piece of intelligence that informs decision making in Welsh Government. Many of our stakeholders use ESS to inform their planning and we regularly provide bespoke summaries of ESS, for example, to our Regional Skills Partnerships to build their evidence base on regional skills.”
