Summary

Corporate Snakes and Career Ladders. This one-day business simulation will explore themes and challenges around the MRS Code of Conduct. Participants will take on the role of a market researcher who is faced with series of challenges related to Code of Conduct and Ethical issues. Participants will have to work in teams to resolve the dilemmas, balancing short- and long-term needs while ensuring the highest market research standards are met.

Learning outcomes
Apart from being familiar with the Code, participants will learn how to use the Code to make discussions and have in-depth debates about real-life case studies to explore how the Code operates in practice. During the course of the day, participants will also learn practical tools to help them have difficult conversations, learn how to say ‘no’ to clients who want to do things the wrong way, and get a chance to practice their advisory skills.

Our approach has been used successfully for three other professional associations to help them communicate and socialise their ethical standards.

Who would benefit

  • In-house researchers who want to be able to have more effective conversations with senior stakeholders.
  • Agency executives who need to know the Code of Conduct in detail when designing research projects.
  • Those working in fieldwork roles who face Code of Conduct challenges on a daily basis.
  • People working in Quality or Standards who need to understand the nuances of the Code.

Learning Method

The base learning method will be an immersive experience, via the power of a business simulation in which participants will take on the role of a researcher, dealing with particular challenges. This kinaesthetic approach will be supplement by more traditional approaches, as well as leaving time for self-reflection. This approach has proved successful for events held at the CIPR, the Royal Society of Arts, and the IABC, and we are pleased to be able to bring it to the MRS.
