Leslie Sopp, FMRS BSc

Leslie is Chief of Market Research and Head of Profession at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), focused on consumer and market research for the Market Intelligence & Data Analysis Division within Strategy & Competition. He has previously worked in senior research roles at TheCityUK; Age UK (and Age Concern England / Age Concern Enterprises); ICAEW and Which? and began his research career at ONS.He is a Fellow of the MRS, and was an elected Council Member of MRS (2006-2012); and Chairman of the MRS Management Board 2006-2009. He was previously a Director of AURA, the client research users and buyers group (Chairman from 2000–2004, and Vice-Chairman from 2004–5).

Paul Eaves

Paul Eaves is the Head of Behavioural Evidence and Insight at HM Revenue & Customs. Paul leads a multidisciplinary team of economists, market, social and operational researchers who help colleagues make better, evidence based decisions based upon greater understanding of HMRC’s many and varied customers. Paul has worked in his specialism for more than 25 years having joined HMRC from the private sector where he held senior positions in Telecoms and Technology Companies.

Lisa Edie

Lisa is the founding partner of The Hive Insight & Idea Generation, she has spent 6 years client side in Whitehall, leading Customer Insight work in both HMRC and the Department of Education. She started her career agency side and worked for several research consultancies, specialising in customer relationship management and new product/service development. She’s had a number of roles bridging between agency and client side, including working for Leo Burnett as a dedicated research function for McDonald’s. She received an award from AURA in 2011 in recognition of her Knowledge sharing amongst the client side community.

Wilma Smythe

Wilma started her research career after completing her degree in Psychology from the University Autonoma of Barcelona. Her international background spans across Spain, the US and the UK, where she has led a number of research, marketing strategy and business intelligence projects, including advising clients in both public sector (World Bank and State of Arkansas) and private sector (Citibank). In London, Wilma worked four years as a Senior Customer Insight Manager for HMRC. She then moved to work for Experian, developing their customer analytics offer, and is now Head of Customer Intelligence at the Identity and Passport Service. Wilma is also a Council Board member of AURA (Association of Users of Research Agencies) and has an MBA from Loyola University Chicago.

Siobhan Coughlan

Siobhan is a Programme Manager at the Local Government Association where one of her areas is supporting councils embed customer insight as corporate management information tool – this is to help them better understand and engage with their communities, manage demand and target resources more effectively and efficiently.

Dr Maria Hannan

Dr Maria Hannan is Head of Research for the Electoral Registration Transformation Programmed at the Cabinet Office. She leads on the production and provision of evaluation and research evidence to support the development of the policy and legalisation which underpins the Programme. Maria has worked in Government Social Research for over ten years, beginning her career at the Home Office and working on police community relations, before moving to the Independent Police Complaints Commission to work on a range of issue relating to police integrity and ethics. Maria has a PhD from King’s College London School of Law which explored the use of police custody to hold detain people awaiting mental health assessments.

Lee Bryer

Lee is the Research and Development Operations Manager at the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). Lee leads a team of specialist market researchers and is responsible for managing a highly diverse programme of research and evaluation projects. He has extensive experience as both a researcher and research buyer, and is one of the foremost construction labour market researchers in the UK. His particular area of expertise is in attitudinal and behavioural research, although his work has included prominent studies on industry performance and workforce mobility. Lee also sits on the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills Consultative Committee on Construction Industry Statistics (CCCIS).

Ric Tizard

Ric Tizard is the Head of Research and Insight at NEST (National Employment Savings Trust). Ric has wide experience leading insight initiatives in a variety of sectors in commercial and public sector environments, both on the client and agency side. He has worked on a diverse range of research throughout his career, from large scale brand and customer experience tracking to qualitative work on product and advertising testing and a whole lot more in between.
