An IJMR workshop

Effective and persuasive writing in the field of research requires skills, experience and discipline if the audience you are hoping to influence is to act on your findings and do things differently. Whether you are writing a report, or an article or paper for a peer reviewed journal you need to know how best to present evidence, draw conclusions and make recommendations in a structured and convincing way.

In this one day workshop you will learn what constitutes ‘best practice’ in evidence-based writing, and undertake practical exercises that will help you apply the knowledge gained during the day.

Having these skills opens up new opportunities to build your career. For example, you will be able to write with confidence for peer reviewed journals where your work will be read by leading practitioners and academics in the fields of marketing, market and social research. You will also be adding to the accepted, and highly influential, body of knowledge in that particular field, and others will cite your work. You will be adding a new skill and achievement to your CV and by publishing in a peer review journal you will earn valuable credits in the MRS CPD scheme which can be used, for example, to support an application for MRS certified membership status. You will learn how to marshal your thoughts and facts, to tell a convincing story, and keep your reports for clients more focussed and action orientated.

The same skill sets can be applied to write reports, executive presentations and conference presentations where the ability to communicate effectively and to organise the arguments is key for a successful career.

Above all, you will feel a sense of achievement and add to your own knowledge about a particular aspect of market or social research.

Who should attend?

This workshop will appeal to anyone wishing to brush up their written communication skills, or who have thought of writing a paper for a journal but feel they don’t have the necessary skills to do so. It will also appeal to anyone who would like to improve their writing skills for white papers, conference papers and client reports. Finally it will be of interest to anyone who would like to use their expertise in research to help other authors by becoming a referee for articles and papers submitted to a peer review journal.
