Professional Standards are at the very core of MRS, we champion the highest ethical, commercial and methodological practices in research. Continuously providing fair regulation, clear guidance and practical advice to ensure that research flourishes. MRS want to ensure that all our members and company partners are fully versed in the new changes to the code of conduct to ensure that projects are fully compliant. 

We have also partnered with the CIPD to bring you the their guide for Ethics in the Work Place. This webinar could be the perfect timing if you are now implementing changes to your return to work policies.

MRS Code of Conduct

Julie Corney is the MRS Standards and Compliance Manager, with responsibilities that include providing advice on the Codeline advisory service, drafting codes and guidelines and delivering standards briefings.

In late 2019 the MRS Code of Conduct was revised to reflect evolving ethical best practice and significant changes in the data protection framework.  The changes also seek to ensure that the Code keeps pace with the accelerated speed and progress of technological development and data use. Julie will outline the key changes and hot topics and answer any questions you have. 


CIPD Ethics in the Work Place

Tina Russell is the Professional Conduct and Ethics Lead at CIPD and has lead the implementation of the CIPD Code of Professional Conduct and supporting Procedures. 

Beyond the application of the Code of Professional Conduct, the CIPD new Profession Map includes ‘ethical behaviour’. Tina has been leading work on supporting ethical practice and will talk through that work including how to navigate through ethical dilemmas.

Julie provides expertise on ethical and industry codes, standards and guidelines, and on the enforcement of professional standards to promote wider understanding of best practice in market, opinion and social research. This includes providing support to individual members, Company Partners and accredited Fair Data organisations in achieving best practice.
Julie is also responsible for the enforcement of professional standards and co-ordinates the investigation of disciplinary cases, including managing the work of the Market Research Standards Board and the Standards Department and supports the MRS Policy Unit.
Tina’s first 5 years at the CIPD were spent managing membership upgrading and CPD. This included developing, launching and implementing the Academic Membership route – which now has over 450 members.
For the last 7 years Tina has lead the implementation of the CIPD Code of Professional Conduct and supporting Procedures. Reviewing complaints of alleged breaches of the Code, managing investigations and conduct hearings Tina is also responsible for the management of over 60 volunteers. Identifying insights from complaints, Tina contributes to the development of the Institute’s standards balancing a range of stakeholder and public interest.
Over the last 3 years Tina has been leading on work exploring ethics and how to support CIPD Members in practice.
