Applications of Machine Learning Algorithms

Event held on Thursday 14 June 2018, MRS Offices in central London

ADAN - the Advanced Analytics Network - aims to help identify, develop and disseminate research industry best practice in the general area of advanced analytics.

On Thursday 14 June, ADAN will hold its fifth symposium, (a 2-hour evening mini-conference at the MRS offices), which will build on the success of the previous events. We have four 30-minute presentation slots (20 mins for presentation, 10 mins for discussion), and welcome papers that speak directly to our network’s aims.

Specifically, for this event, we are interested in papers that demonstrate latest thinking and advances in applications of machine learning. We would be particularly interested in

  • Case studies of applications to survey data, and/or
  • Case studies where various algorithms have been trialled and compared, and/or
  • Applications where machine learning has been used as part of a wider research project.

Generally the audience will be looking to learn about different applications and what your learnings/recommendations are.

ADAN members have a common interest in advanced analytics, but approach this from a variety of backgrounds, so papers should not be overly technical (e.g. lots of equations). Rather they should focus on giving clear examples of how a specific new approach, technique or tweak has improved on what went before, and how the audience might go about using the approach themselves. Papers should be explicit in their description of how members can apply the learnings/techniques described.

Please submit any specific questions or a brief description of your idea for a paper to Michelle Denslow via email: Michelle.Denslow@mrs.org.uk

Please use the following headings for your submission (in Word format)

  • Author (s)/ Company or Affiliation
  • Paper title
  • Description of the analysis you conducted, and why it would be interested to the ADAN audience etc. (max 200 words)
  • Data you will use to show the impact of this development

Please note that we do not accept papers that promote proprietary software or are more directly concerned with data visualisation.

Please also note that whereas we hope that authors who present at the symposium will be willing to share their presentations via the MRS website, though this is not mandatory.

DEADLINE for submission: 5pm, 30 April 2018
