Turquoise Signs Eight Year Research Contract With Hinkley Point C

Turquoise Thinking is delighted to announce that it has entered into an eight-year Partnership Agreement with EDF Energy to manage its ongoing employee engagement programme and to help deliver actionable insights from the results.

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is one of the most ambitious construction projects the UK has ever seen. The power generation plant will cost around £20 billion to build, and is due to go live in 2025. When it does so, it will provide employment to around 25,000 people, and is expected to deliver cleaner energy than existing power stations, resulting in a net saving of 600 million tonnes of CO2 over its 60-year lifespan.

However, there are already more than 3,000 people working day in and day out on the project, and Turquoise will be playing an important role in gathering employee feedback on a range of topics through a combination of surveys and face to face meetings.

“We are thrilled to have been selected to partner with EDF Hinkley Point C. This type of world class project rarely lands on our Devon doorstep, so we count it a real privilege to play a small role in such a gargantuan undertaking over the coming years.”

Mark Harvey, Joint Managing Director, Turquiose Thinking Ltd

Full colour insights

The information that Turquoise will be gathering and assessing is about more than just employee satisfaction, important though that is. It will also examine areas such as on-site accommodation and transportation, leading to better understanding of how employees are using these facilities, and delivering recommendations that will lead to improved efficiencies and reduced costs, as well as to a more motivated and satisfied workforce.

HPC has been running employee surveys twice a year since 2016, the last of which was completed in May 2018. This is an activity that has been overseen by a number of different agencies over the past two years, but this is the first time that a professional market research company will be heading up the process.

The last survey was completed by some 1,400 employees, and while it delivered some valuable conclusions, HPC is excited at the greater depth that will be brought by having Turquoise’s experience and knowledge base on hand. Theresa Bryant, Resource Planning Manager for HPC explained that several market research firms tendered for the project, but that Turquoise’s innovative approach represented the best value for what HPC was seeking to achieve.

Face to face meetings

Surveys are a great way of capturing large amounts of data to provide broad-brush information on trends. Sometimes, however, you need more in-depth information that the yes / no or single sentence responses in a survey. This is why Turquoise will also be engaging in face to face interviews with workers at all levels within the HPC project.

These will predominantly take place in an informal setting, typically in the canteen, and will provide a unique perspective into what is really important to those who are working every day on the project.

Management reporting

Gathering data is only part of the process. To gain the best insights, it needs to be properly processed and understood. Turquoise will be delivering regular reports and presentations to HPC management that will provide unbiased and objective recommendations.

HPC is one of the most significant engineering projects taking place in the UK at the moment and Turquoise is very proud to be a part of it.

Our relationship with Turquoise has spanned a number of decades. They know our business and the sector as well as anyone. Their work is a cornerstone of our business planning.

-Head of Customer Relations, South West Water

I have conversations with Turquoise that I don’t have with other agencies. They help me articulate the problem and potential solutions.

-Head of Research & Evaluation, Skills for Health

The fact that we still use the student segmentation model today that Turquoise first created for us in 2008 is testament to its insight and validity. We continue to value their approaches and ability to visualise important information.

-Head of Programmes & Insight, Middlesex University

A great agency providing robust and actionable results. We trust Turquoise to deliver the results we need and like the fact that they offer innovative solutions.

-Market Research Executive, Roche

Once you start exploring your customers to the depth that Turquoise do, you’ll never look at them in the same way again. Fresh thinking and sound data, a rare combination but certainly what I’ve experienced from Turquoise.

-Brand Research & Consumer Insight Manager, Citroen

Turquoise proved highly skilled at organising the project and executing all the different stages. The insights they delivered really helped us make the best decisions possible with confidence in the data. Thank you for all the hard work!

-Market Insight Office, Swansea University

Turquoise conducted our first in-depth market research project. The results have been very thorough and have helped us to better understand our users and non-users and to plan how we can reach more people in the future.

-Communications & Marketing Manager, Libraries Unlimited

Turquoise helped us get to the bottom of a tricky problem that was holding us back as an organisation. They were very responsive, professional and got to grips with our needs quickly, providing a rapid turnaround on the insight we needed. Their online data portal was also really useful.
