It was great to make it to Scotland to meet with a very friendly bunch of members, most of whom had had to make quite a journey. Janet Brooks (AMRS) from Ashbrook Consultancy had travelled all the way from Ayr.

Scotland has many unique issues (including the geographic dispersal of the membership) but as the home of such a vibrant creative industry, it should be a natural place for a strong research sector as well.

We had a lively debate about the importance and potential of a campaign around the ethical use of data and I was given some very useful suggestions about the best people to talk to in Scotland, which we will take forward.

Again, I found many I met to be (very pleasantly) surprised about the depth and breadth of MRS' work to support the research sector -  a clear prompt to all of us here to be smarter with our communications.  I was delighted to be able to encourage the meeting to log on to our new streaming service providing an opportunity for members all over the UK to access the content of events held in London.

On a lighter and personal note, my hotel room was graced with a wonderful view of Edinburgh castle - inspiring and much better than the normal panorama of hotel courtyards, car parks and dustbins which usually feature in hotel stays!
