MRS’s Storytelling conference will showcase skilful and creative examples of how to present research to maximise its impact and engagement with stakeholders. It will explore how to transform data and information into meaningful and persuasive narratives that stir emotions, embed deep understanding, inspire and drive change.

The goals of the conference are to: 

  • Learn from great examples of storytelling from outside of the insight industry – how do Tik Tok influencers, filmmakers, journalists, podcasters and activists captivate their audiences?
  • Support researchers to move away from conventional communications and explore more creative ways of presenting findings through video, podcasts, voice, immersive techniques, workshops etc.
  • Develop creativity in turning vast quantities of data into compelling stories – blending the human touch with AI and machine learning
  • Demonstrate different frameworks for storytelling and encourage researchers to think about storytelling from the very start of their projects
  • Highlight how agencies are incorporating science with behavioural insights to transform their storytelling
  • Reveal how storytelling is transforming insight operations for leading brands

Some of the questions we’ll aim to answer:

How to put emotion into data? How best to use storytelling as a tool for engagement and consultation? How to use storytelling to achieve strategic aims?  What should patient centric stories look like in healthcare research? How to develop positive stories in sustainability research to spur people to action? What does great storytelling look like in futurology and foresight? How to use storytelling as a tool for advocacy?

  • CASE STUDY (30mins) – Demonstrate the application of novel storytelling techniques which have brought your research findings to life and maximised the impact of your insight.
  • SKILLS TUTORIAL (30mins) – Deliver a session that provides tips and tools for transforming storytelling.
  • NO SLIDES PANEL SESSIONS (30mins) - Convene and lead a panel that will generate a thought-provoking discussion around storytelling.
  • IN CONVERSATION WITH… (30mins) - Lead a one-to-one interview style session which brings together an agency and client for a topical conversation about a recent research project

A quick note on our selection criteria:

With just 10 sessions available we give priority to client-side presenters / co-presenters, new hot-off-the-press research and projects using pioneering approaches.
