The success of the 2014 MRS Operations Awards, both in terms of the standard and number of entries and the awards evening itself, demonstrates how important the operations element is to our industry – the need for a bigger venue in 2015 further reinforces this.

From a data collection perspective, those of us who joined the industry in the late 80s found the word from the wise was that face-to-face was dead and telephone was the future.

Then, of course, with the rise of the internet we were told that telephone was dead and on-line surveys would become the norm...

More recently it is social media and big data that have been heralded as the future for our industry.

As for data solutions, with smart phones now having more power than all the PCs in a mid-90s DP department, who will need data analysts and data service departments in the very near future?

Yet it is clear today that as our industry continues to evolve, we will always need to have faith in such core operational elements and we will always need experienced, skilled and dedicated operations staff and departments. New thinking and technology is undoubtedly a great force for the good and such new developments combined with traditional methods makes a powerful, effective combination.

With 50 years’ experience, IFF Research has seen and continues to embrace new trends and technologies that, along with its outstanding operations staff, have helped it grow into a leading agency with its neutral approach helping our clients succeed.

IFF is once again very delighted and proud to sponsor the Operations Awards, recognising what a vital part of our industry these services are.

The MRS Operations Awards are open for entries until 29 May.
