Netquest and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) Barcelona have been recognised by the International Journal of Market Research for exemplifying how research practitioners and academics can work together.

Melanie Revilla, from the Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology and an adjunct professor at UPF, and Carlos Ochoa, Netquest’s Marketing and Innovation Director, receive the award for Alternative methods for selecting web survey samples, which will be published in the July issue (60/4) of IJMR.

Peter Mouncey, Editor-in-Chief of IJMR, feels that the authors have explored an important topic. “From their comprehensive literature review, Melanie and Carlos developed hypotheses tested through a rigorous research design, leading to clearly described and actionable findings,” he says. “Their work could reduce the number of participants being rejected in screening questions, and help address the potentially negative impact of this on attitudes towards being a panel member.”

Melanie and Carlos say they are “deeply thankful” to the IJMR for the recognition. “The award's title, ‘Collaborative Research’, illustrates precisely our mission over the course of the past five years in bridging the existing gaps between academia and commercial research, the many learnings having been mutually beneficial for both disciplines. Receiving this exciting award further encourages us to persist in our shared vocation for the pursuit of excellence and relevance across all research.”

The trophy will be presented at the MRS Excellence Awards Lunch in London on 8 June.
