bpas (British Pregnancy Advisory Service) apprehensively embarked on its first programme of research in 2012. Despite being Britain's largest single abortion provider and caring for over 55,000 women each year, this charity had not approached women for their opinions outside of their clinics before.

bpas wanted to know how women source information and support when they find themselves with a ‘crisis pregnancy’, the brand perceptions they held of bpas and how they engage with different styles of advertising.

Gough Bailey Wright, bpas’ marketing agency developed a range of advertising executions for the research – some were deliberately edgier than others. They weren’t bpas’ normal style but direction was needed on what was acceptable and what was a step too far.

On 1 December, bpas, Gough Bailey Wright and Research by Design will tell you about the difficult discussions that were had designing the research and deciding on the methodology, the valuable lessons that were learned and how all this has led to today’s brand positioning and advertising of bpas’ services.

    Rhodri Burridge

    Rhodri Burridge is the Account Director of award winning Midlands based agency Gough Bailey Wright. Rhod has over 15 years’ experience in marketing, working across the: charity, healthcare, retail, construction and pharmaceutical sectors.

    Rhodri has been with Gough Bailey Wright for 8 years, supporting and directing clients’ strategic marketing campaigns. Gough Bailey Wright’s clients include: Sainsbury’s, Drayton Manor, NFU & of course bpas.

    Heather Forrester

    Heather Forrester is the MD of Research by Design, a full service market research agency based in Birmingham city centre. RbD is currently celebrating its 21st year, expanding its offering across the membership, not-for-profit, retail, professional services and industrial sectors.

    Heather’s passion for research led her to help establish the Market Research Society Midlands group, giving researchers and those involved in the regional marketing community a chance to share ideas and experiences.

    Donagh Stenson

    Donagh Stenson is Associate Director of Marketing at bpas (British Pregnancy Advisory Service). bpas supports reproductive choice and health by advocating and providing high quality, affordable services to prevent or end unwanted pregnancies with contraception or by abortion.

    She joined bpas 7 years ago as the Head of Marketing, after 13 years at Barclays working in various Marketing Manager roles. The obvious sensitivities and challenges facing the communication and promotion of bpas’ life changing services were the attraction back in 2008. Such are her achievements that her responsibilities have broadened, her team has grown and her use of multiple channels has extended.
