MRS Unlimited are creating a short video series called ‘Count Me In’, which focuses on the experiences of people with disabilities in quantitative research, sharing both positive experiences and challenges across the research journey – from online survey design and completion through to how findings are presented.

Through these videos, we want contributors to share their lived experiences, particularly the frustrations, barriers, and changes that would make surveys and quantitative research more accessible and inclusive.

The videos are aimed to help researchers and survey designers to create more inclusive and accessible surveys. They will be shared publicly via MRS’s LinkedIn, YouTube, and website.

What’s involved?

If you’re interested, we’d like you to:

Record a short video answering the three questions below (you can self-record or ask someone to help).

Tips: record in a well-lit space, when recording hold your phone in landscape mode, adjust your video settings to high definition, and avoid having your back to a window. Please do get in touch if you’d like any support with this.

Send your video to us and we’ll create a final edited video which will feature a mix of 2-3 individuals’ responses.

You’ll have the opportunity to review and sign off the video before it is shared publicly.

Your involvement is completely voluntary. We appreciate anyone willing to share their experiences of accessibility and inclusion in research.

The questions

Each video will be edited to show the question on screen, followed by your response.

  • Question 1: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and why you think accessible and inclusive research is important?
You can start by briefly introducing yourself and anything you’re comfortable sharing about your experience or access needs.
  • Question 2: What, if anything, do you find makes being involved in quant research such as online surveys easier or more difficult for you?

With this question - please think about accessibility, ease of completion, clarity,  language or cultural inclusivity

  • Question 3: What do you think would make the biggest difference in surveys to make them more accessible and inclusive to you?

There’s no script and no right or wrong way to answer, just share what feels most important to you. It’s absolutely fine to pause, restart, or keep things informal.

Privacy and consent

By sharing your video, you consent to us securely storing your details and recording on a SharePoint site owned by The Social Agency, accessed only by project partners directly involved in this work (RNIB, Open Inclusion, and The Social Agency). You also consent to your video being shared publicly.

If you’re interested or would like to know more, we’d love to hear from you. Send your questions and videos to mrs.networking@mrs.org.uk

Best wishes,
